UGC to Varsities: Accept New CBSE Subjects for Admission

CBSEThe University Grant Commission (UGC) has issued a new directive to all universities to take adequate measures to accept 13 new subjects introduced by the CBSE for admission into their undergraduate programs. All of these 13 new CBSE subjects are meant for students of Class XI and XII.

“The CBSE has introduced various academic subjects at the senior secondary level. It is imperative that these subjects find a reflection in the subjects already being offered at the graduate level in various educational institutes,” Shakeel Ahmed, Deputy Secretary, UGC, stated in a letter to vice-chancellors of all UGC affiliated universities.

“It is important that appropriate consideration may be accorded while admitting students to the undergraduate courses at the college/university level,” added Ahmed.

Meanwhile, according to a senior official at the University of Pune, the letter from the UGC will be evaluated by appropriate bodies including the academic council before the new directives are implemented.

CBSE believes that the new subjects in offering are “rigorous in nature and designed especially with the industry and employability avenues in mind.”

“This may be brought to the notice of all concerned institutes so that students face no difficulty when they pass out from Standard XII. The information brochures, prospectuses, websites or any other form of communication may accommodate the names of these new academic subjects, so that students may be treated as eligible for admission to higher education as per their preferences,” says Sadhana Parashar, Director, CBSE; Times of India reports.
