A five-member bench headed by Supreme Court Justice Anil Dave adjourned the single common entrance case for medical admissions to April 7, 2016. The Apex Court also directed the AP, Telangana governments and management associations to file their counter replies by March 31, 2016.
On the other hand, the MCI and the Central government are asked to file their rejoinders within four days later.
The bench which heard the protracted arguments for and against the single common entrance test proposed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for admissions into medical colleges decided to hear the arguments again on the next date of hearing.
Last year, the Medical Council of India (MCI) gave its approval to the joint proposal of the health ministry regarding a unitary ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)’ for admission to MBBS and one for post-graduate medical courses across the country.
However, this was opposed by several states and medical associations. The apex court struck down the same later. However, the MCI and the Centre filed a review petition in the SC.
