The wait of medical college aspirants who appeared in National Eligibility- cum- Entrance Test (NEET) 2016 is finally over. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the results of phase 1 and phase 2 NEET today. The NEET result was expected to be out on August 17 but the board released the results of both the phases on August 16 itself.
The delay in the announcement of results that lasted for months caused much inconvenience to a lot of medical aspirants. Many had to take admission in other undergraduate programmes as a fail safe measure.
The announcement from the CBSE has come a few days after the Supreme Court of India made it mandatory for all medical and dental aspirants to appear for NEET in order to qualify for admissions.
Phase1 of NEET 2016 was conducted on May 1 and over 600,000 students registered for it while phase2 of NEET 2016 held on July 24. Approximately 400,000 students appeared for phase2 NEET, out of which 150,000 were fresh candidates.
The SC verdict states that students who appeared for both phases will not be allowed to choose between their marks. Meaning, only the score secured in phase2 will be considered.
The NEET-UG is an all India level entrance examination for students seeking admission in any graduate medical course MBBS, dental course (BDS) or postgraduate course (MD/ MS) in government or private medical colleges in India. NEET is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
