The Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry is looking at ways to add up to a 1,000 hours of ‘professional’ component to undergraduate programmes.
For the three most popular courses- Bachelors of Arts, Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Commerce- it has been planned that components on soft skills, Information technology and discipline specific professional skills be added to make them more job oriented.
B.A, BSc and B.com will become professional courses with about 1000 hours of specialised content integrated into these programmes. It is hoped that this new format of undergraduate programmes can be rolled out by 2019.
The issue of increasing employability of students through a curriculum upgrade, was discussed at length in Mussorie during the HRD ministry retreat to craft a new strategy for education for 2022.
