All the MBBS colleges will start the 2017-2018 academic sessions from 1st August. After the Madras High Court put a stay on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2017, the schedule was delayed by 20 days. The results were announced on 23rd June.
The government and the states, after the order of Supreme Court, have to finish the admission process so that the academic session starts on 1st August.
Director General of Health Services under the Health Ministry will be conducting the central counseling. The institutions that will be conducting counseling have already been designated by the state government. There are total 65,170 MBBS seats.
For the first time Ministry has allowed state level counselling to start even before the expiry of the last date given to students to join courses allotted during first round of central pool counselling.
Apart from these two rounds, a mop up round will be conducted to fill up the vacant seats in all the deemed, central universities in the country. This mop up round will take place between 18th August and 27th August. The vacant central seats will be transferred to the state. The state will be commencing another mop up counseling from 26th to 28th August.
