To get more foreign students on campus, the premier IITs are planning to hold entrance tests for admissions to UG and PG courses abroad. The government is keen on having more foreign students on campus to boost international rankings.
In a recent meeting, the HRD Ministry had decided to conduct entrance tests in 8 other countries for foreign nationals. The decision would be applied to both JEE as well as GATE from the next academic session 2017. However, the outreach programme for the same will begin this year across the eight countries.
The test will be administered by IITs. The seats offered to foreign nationals will be supernumerary in nature. It will not affect the number seats available for Indian students.
