The Supreme Court directed the Health Ministry and Medical Council of India to respond to the pleas raised by the medical students and states against the conduction of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET).
Students and State governments of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra have filed petitions in the Supreme Court against the conduct of NEET. The Apex Court on Saturday dismissed the pleas filed by students a day before the AIPMT (phase 1 of NEET) was conducted across the country.
State governments have appealed to the Supreme Court to allow them to conduct their own entrance tests. Students also opposed the Apex Court’s order for holding the NEET this year in two phases, especially who appeared in NEET-1 claiming that those appearing in NEET phase 2 will get more time for preparation.
