Maharashtra CET registrations all time high: hits 3.89 lakh

The number of engineering and pharmacy aspirants in Maharashtra hits 3.89 lakh, an all-time high. The fear of tougher All India level exams like Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is the reason for high registrations for Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET).

According to the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), the number of applications for MHT-CET 2017 has touched 3.89 lakh after the final deadline of extended time given to students to apply for CET. this is the highest number of applications ever received for admission to engineering and pharmacy courses.

JEE is tougher with a different syllabus and has negative marking. This is the possible reason why many students choose CET over JEE and other national level examinations.  DTE has also received over 94000 applications for management programmes while the available management seats are only 32000.

While the application process for MH-CET was closed on March 30, it was reopened and extended till April 10 after receiving requests from various candidates who could not finish the application process within the stipulated time.

Around 2000 applications were received during the extended period and each candidate had to pay twice the application fee as fine for the delay.
