The Class 10 board exams are unlikely to be brought back, since the government is likely to continue with the current system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), introduced in 2011.
There was apprehension that the Class 10 board exams might make a comeback. However, reliable sources said the government wants CCE to continue, though it will be tweaked to do away with the flaws. The system of CCE has general acceptance and so is the practice of school-based Class 10 exams.
However, CCE has several flaws. It is increasingly becoming a copy and paste system of completing projects. CCE has been there for seven years and should be re-evaluated.
The HRD Minister Smriti Irani has also written to the state education ministers explaining the need to make CCE more effective. The HRD ministry has told CBSE that CCE needs to be looked into for any flaws and implemented more forcefully. There is also a move to tweak CCE in a way that even students from poor families find it easier to do projects on regular basis.
