CBSE asks schools to follow NCERT curriculum

CBSE says: Only NCERT curriculum to be followed in schools

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed all the schools affiliated to it to follow the NCERT curriculum and books from the academic session 2017-18. The board also asked the NCERT to print adequate amount of books before the commencement of the 2017-18 academic session.

The move will standardize the curriculum in all the CBSE affiliated schools across the country. The decision of CBSE will provide relief to the parents asked by schools to purchase the textbooks of private publishers.

CBSE also sent a circular to all the schools that NCERT will print and supply the adequate quantity of textbooks for all classes through vendors and distributors. All the schools will be required to raise their demand online on the CBSE website.

Generally, private publishers do not follow the NCERT syllabus and guidelines while designing their books. Also, they have only one or two authors for a book, unlike NCERT which has multiple authors for a book.

In a review meeting between NCERT and senior officials in Ministry of HRD, it was decided that all the CBSE schools will have to follow the NCERT curriculum and books as this will maintain uniformity and standardization of syllabus.
