The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to rework the scholarship scheme for Jammu & Kashmir students. From this academic session, the AICTE will allow up to 10 students, instead of just two, from the region to study at an institute outside the state.
The HRD ministry has proposed interest-free loan for all IIT students (entire tuition fee) under government’s ‘Vidyalakshmi’ scheme at the time of admission. According to the sources, the proposal will be approved by the IIT council shortly. Both the Chairperson of the IIT council and the HRD minister are entitled to take the decision.
In a recent circular, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all the universities to start considering the PhD research period as equivalent to teaching experience. As per the circular, “the period of active service spent on pursuing Research Degree i.e. for acquiring PhD degree simultaneously, without taking any kind of leave, may be counted as teaching experience for the purpose of direct recruitment/ promotion to the post of Associate Professor and above.”
