300 MBBS seats still vacant in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu has 300 unfilled seats for MBBS course

In the Anna University, about 300 seats lay vacant in the MBBS/BDS courses. Though, many officials from the university expected this number to be around 500. This was due to the delay in the medical counseling.

About 259 students from the College of Engineering, Guindy received the bonafide certificate so that they can participate in the medical counseling. Out of these, 145 students left the engineering course. Also, about 45 and 100 students from Alagappa College of Technology and the Madras Institute of Technology respectively left the engineering courses and opted for medical courses.

Some students from the School of Architecture and Planning (SAP) in Anna University have dropped out to join an MBA course.

As opposed to last year, the Anna University will have about 100 more vacant seats due to delay in the medical counseling. As the counseling for the engineering courses was held offline, these vacant seats will not be filled.

This year, many top rankers joined the engineering courses instead of the medical courses due to confusion in the mode of admission. This year, the number of vacant seats in the first phase of medical counseling is high and this number is expected to increase after the second and the third phase of counseling. Last year MIT and CEG had 40 and 136 vacancies respectively. In CEG, AC Tech, and MIT, an average of 9-10% seats will be vacant.

This year, there was a lot of confusion over NEET which delayed the medical counseling. This resulted in the conduction of the engineering counseling way ahead than the medical counseling.

According to the officials of the directorate of the medical education, the counseling for management and government quota MBBS seats that started on 25th August ended on Sunday. For the BDS courses, the counseling will end next week.
