PGI Chandigarh to introduce Fool Proof security for MD MS Entrance Exams
No more cheating in Entrance Exams as impersonators may not be able to fool the 3 tier biometric system.In the last exam, almost eight months ago that the institute had hit the news after two of its junior resident doctors got admission fraudulently after someone else impersonated for them in the entrance exam.
To check all this and make the Entrance Exam fool-proof, PGIMER will for the first time introduce a three-tier biometric system during the ensuing MD/ MS exams. In the biometric system under which the thumb impression, finger print and photograph of the candidate sitting in the examination would be taken and then be stored in a database. Medical CET for MBBS and PG Admissions may not be possible this year
Even though the Supreme Court has directed MCI to conduct an All India Common Entrance Test for MBBS and PG Medical Admission, the common entrance test for the MBBS course proposed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) has hit another roadblock as the council may not be able to conduct the test from the current academic year due to time constraints, reports Deccan Herald

Two days after the Supreme Court gave the go-ahead to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to hold a single eligibility-cum-entrance test for MBBS and post graduate medical courses, the MCI has expressed its inability to hold a Common Entrance Test (CET) this year. A senior official in the MCI said, “Starting the CET from this year will not be possible as we want to give enough time to the students to prepare for the exam. We are already in March, holding the CET this year is not possible. Even the CBSE has expressed its unwillingness to hold the exam this academic year. But next year, they have communicated, they can do it.”

Supreme Court directs Central Govt. to hold a Single Common Entrance Test (CET) for all Medical Courses
The Supreme Court today directed the Central Government to hold a single eligibility- cum-entrance examination for MBBS and post-graduate medical courses in the country from this academic session.

Tamilnadu and Gujarat do not support MCIs Medical CET Plan
The proposal of having a common entrance test for admission to Medical Colleges (both Undergraduate and PG) has not been accepted by states including Gujarat and Tamilnadu.
Though most states supported the test, it is unlikely that the system will come into effect from next session as Gujarat and Tamil Nadu outrightly rejected the idea at the state ministers’ conference in Hyderabad on Thursday.

500 medical colleges needed in five years
Medical Council of India (MCI) has projecting a need for as many as 500 medical colleges in the next five years. MCI also recommended that such institutions should each have at least 10 acres of land (which was 25 acres earlier) for a college and hospital and not more than 250 students (which was 200 students earlier).

Notification on All India CET for PG Medical Courses soon
On Friday the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it supported Medical Council of India’s proposal to have a common entrance test (CET) for admission in post graduate medical courses and that it wanted to notify it within a week.

AIIMS 2012 Entrance Exam will be an Online Entrance Test
Entrance exams to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ (AIIMS) will soon go online by 2012 similar to Common Admission Test (CAT) in 2009 and AIMA MAT, reports the Hindustan Times
AIIMS administration wants to conduct its entrance exams for undergraduate (MBBS) , PG and other courses, online, on the lines of AIMA & Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to ensure total transparency. The other online model being considered is ENET as adapted by Manipal Medical College.
