Gujarat Government frames new rules for medical seats and scraps NRI seats to increase the management quota seats in medical colleges. The management quota has been increased from 10 % to 25 %. The NRI candidates will also have to clear the class 12 examination to apply for the seats in self-financed medical colleges in Gujarat.
Admission to 65 out of 250 medical seats in the King George Medical University did not happen in the first round of counseling due to confusions arising from a conflict between the university and Medical Council of India (MCI).
Another institute, the North Bengal Medical College has also come under the scanner of the MCI and is also at risk of losing its seats. Both of these institutes had earlier applied for an increase of 100 and 150 seats respectively. The total tally of seats available in the state medical colleges now stands at 1,400; down from 2400 seats available last year.
