The Statement says , “As per communication received from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India regarding seeking permission from the Hon’ble Supreme Court to allow introduction of NEET for Under Graduate Medical Courses from the academic year 2013-14 instead of 2012-13, the Central Board of Secondary Education would now conduct the All India Pre-Medical/ Pre-Dental Entrance Examination only for the 15% all India quota seats” Read more…
Agartala, Aug 7 (IANS) The Tripura government and opposition parties have urged the central government and the Medical Council of India (MCI) to further relax eligibility criteria for admission to medical colleges for northeast’s tribal students.
“Both the centre and the MCI are yet to communicate their decisions on more cut-off marks relaxations for the tribal and the Scheduled Castes (SC) community students seeking admission to MBBS courses,” Tripura’s Health and Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty told reporters Sunday.
Jaipur, July 26 (IANS) A scam in the Rajasthan pre-medical test conducted in May has come to light, for the third year in a row, with over 40 students under the scanner on suspicion that they cleared the test illegally.
The scam was unearthed Tuesday when Chetan, a student, was arrested after it was found that he hired a man named Vikram for Rs.400,000 to appear in the written test in his place.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Health Ministry have finally reached a consensus to hold a All India Common Entrance Test for MBBS Course in all government run medical colleges, Private medical Colleges and Deemed Universities from 2012-2013 academic session. The meeting on Monday was attended by MCI , CBSE and Helth Ministry officials, reports the TOI.
Even though the Supreme Court has directed MCI to conduct an All India Common Entrance Test for MBBS and PG Medical Admission, the common entrance test for the MBBS course proposed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) has hit another roadblock as the council may not be able to conduct the test from the current academic year due to time constraints, reports Deccan Herald

Two days after the Supreme Court gave the go-ahead to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to hold a single eligibility-cum-entrance test for MBBS and post graduate medical courses, the MCI has expressed its inability to hold a Common Entrance Test (CET) this year. A senior official in the MCI said, “Starting the CET from this year will not be possible as we want to give enough time to the students to prepare for the exam. We are already in March, holding the CET this year is not possible. Even the CBSE has expressed its unwillingness to hold the exam this academic year. But next year, they have communicated, they can do it.”

As most of aspirants (who are among the affected lot) are aware that both AIEEE and AFMC MBBS entrance exam scheduled for the same date, on May 1, across the country, the respective boards (CBSE and Armed Forces Medical Services) have decided to hold the tests at separate timings on that day, giving respite to candidates appearing for both.
The proposal of having a common entrance test for admission to Medical Colleges (both Undergraduate and PG) has not been accepted by states including Gujarat and Tamilnadu.
Though most states supported the test, it is unlikely that the system will come into effect from next session as Gujarat and Tamil Nadu outrightly rejected the idea at the state ministers’ conference in Hyderabad on Thursday.
