Common Engineering Entrance Exam will have elements of IIT JEE also
It seems the IITs have agreed to join the HRD Ministry’s bid to have a national common engineering entrance examination for all engineering colleges in the country. This only happened after there was an agreement that several elements of IIT-JEE will be part of the new All India common examination for Engineering Admissions, reports HT
The report is that the Ministry of HRD will soon call a meeting of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Council to stamp a decision to merge the IIT-Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

All India MBBS CET likely from 2012-2013 session
The Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Health Ministry have finally reached a consensus to hold a All India Common Entrance Test for MBBS Course in all government run medical colleges, Private medical Colleges and Deemed Universities from 2012-2013 academic session. The meeting on Monday was attended by MCI , CBSE and Helth Ministry officials, reports the TOI.

CET for Pilot Training on the cards – Government considering to introduce a Common Entrance Test for admission to flying training In India there is almost 40 institutes which are imparting pilot training to 2,500 individuals per year.
An official of Civil Aviation Ministry said, the proposal for a Common Entrance Test, on the lines of Medical and Engineering Entrance Test, is on the drawing board. SC makes CET mandatory for admission to Medical Courses
MCI has got an order from Supreme Court to implement the notification to conduct a Common Entrance Test (CET) for state and all medical seats from this academic session.
Justice RV Raveendran and justice AK Patnaik gave the order and mentioned that this direction would also be going to apply to all private medical colleges in the country. CET has to be held for both, undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

10 to 15 percent engineering seats increased in Maharashtra this year
In the academic year 2011-12, the directorate of technical education is getting very small increase in the number of engineering seats.
The test is going to take place on May 12, as per the notice issued by the state government. The directorate of medical education and research (DMER) is the competent authority for the test and it will be in charge for ensuing pharmacy seats.
S K Mahajan, director technical education said, that last year the total number of seats available for the students for engineering colleges was 1.12 lakh and for pharmacy it was over 35,500. We expect not more than 10 to 15 per cent increase in the intake for the coming year.

National Engineering Common Entrance Test (CET) after consulting states, Says Sibal
Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal today said all the State Governments would be taken into confidence before deciding on the proposal for a Common Entrance Test (CET) for Engineering Courses.
In his reply to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s January three letter, Mr Sibal assured no proposal for a CET for engineering courses would be finalised without consulting the state governments.

Tamilnadu and Gujarat do not support MCIs Medical CET Plan
The proposal of having a common entrance test for admission to Medical Colleges (both Undergraduate and PG) has not been accepted by states including Gujarat and Tamilnadu.
Though most states supported the test, it is unlikely that the system will come into effect from next session as Gujarat and Tamil Nadu outrightly rejected the idea at the state ministers’ conference in Hyderabad on Thursday.
