The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) released notification which stated that from next year, in the Maharashtra common entrance test for medical and engineering colleges (MHT-CET), the syllabus of 11th Class will be included. Until now, MHT-CET was based on the syllabus of class 12th only.
Class 12th will have major weight while class 11th will have minor weight. The DTE, along with the state board officials, will decide which portion of the syllabus will be included. There will be no negative marking. On 24th July, the State Higher and Technical Education Department sent a letter to the DTE asking it to raise its standards at par with the national level exam. So, the step is taken to increase the standard of the MHT-CET exam to the level of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET).
However, according to the DTE sources, the department suggested that the changes should be implemented in the 2019 exam. The committee also asked for negative marking. However, both of these were rejected by the government.
The notification was released so early so that the students and the parents can prepare for the exam properly. Also, the step was taken to give more importance to class 11th, which is considered a rest year.
