In tonight’s “India Decides” on NDTV 24 X7, a School Principal said that Kapil Sibal is “Sam Pitroda” of Education System in India. As many of you may know that Mr.Sam Pitroda revolutionized the state of telecommunications in India and Yes, it was mainly because of the efforts of this inventor, technocrat, and social thinker that telecom revolution started in India.

What  Sam Pitroda did for Telecom, Kapil Sibal is all out to spearhead  far-reaching reforms in the Indian Education System, The Government proposed scrapping the Class X Board Exams( or making 10th board examination optional) and setting up of a single school board at the national level for a uniform examination for class 12.

“We must detraumatise education. It cannot be traumatic for parents and children. This is unacceptable,” the HRD Minister said unveiling the education agenda.

Government will also introduce a system to replace the present assessment procedure of giving marks with grades which will reduce stress, he said.

The single board would replace 33 boards in the country including CBSE and CISCE and hold a uniform examination for
all students on the pattern of CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) being organised for admission to law institutions.

Class X Board Exams may be scrapped

Kapil Sibal in favour of scrapping Class X Board exams

In a move that could provide relief to Class 10 students , Union human resource development minister Kapil Sibal is planning to scrap the Class 10 board examination.

Sibal is of the opinion that examination-based system causes trauma to both the parents and the students. He also felt that the time had come to restructure the system and make it less strssful for the students.

Sibal said that since the student continued in the same school even after Class 10, board exams were not required.

However, Sibal said that a final decision in this regard would be taken only after consultations with the state education boards and schools.

The latest statement came in the backdrop of earlier assurance of reforms by the Minister in school as well as higher education.

UGC cautions students not to join off-campus centres of private Universities

Even as Bangalore University has cautioned students against enrolling themselves in 11 colleges affiliated to it for infrastructure inadequacies, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has sought to alert students against joining the off-campus centres of private universities established outside the territorial jurisdiction of the State where it has been permitted, Reports the Hindu

The UGC caution comes close on the heels of a probe being carried out by the Karnataka government to verify the legal status of more than 50 such off-campus centres of up-country private universities, which are on an admission spree, in various parts of the State, particularly Bangalore, by issuing advertisements in print as well as electronic media.

The UGC has pointed out that these private universities, which had been established by Acts of legislatures of different States, are neither empowered to affiliate an institution or college to it nor establish an off-campus centre outside the territorial jurisdiction of the State. ‘However, they can establish off-campus centres within the State concerned within the State concerned after their existence of five years and with the prior approval of UGC,’ said a statement from the UGC. Further, the UGC has stated that it has, so far, not approved any off-campus centre for any of the 39 private universities established in different States across India. ‘It has come to the notice of the UGC that some of the private universities has affiliated colleges and started off-campus centres beyond the territorial jurisdiction of their State in violation of UGC (Establishment and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) 2003…,’ the UGC stated.
